9th March 20111 - Freedom of South West Day 1

Well my second FOSW of the year has been purchased so that I can get to Eastleigh on the 19th March for my first complete rail tour ever! I could have bought tickets direct but it's better value to get the FOSW and use it on other days!

Today I headed to Cardiff as my main port of call. They is still a fair number of units I still need in the area. Now that I have my new 2011 Locomotives and Coaching Stock book complete with on track machines, i have started to spot these too so kept my eye out at Fairwater and Barton Hill. A couple of snowploughs and a tamper was spotted.

A winning HST power car to Cardiff was caught from Parkway and then discovered the rear was a wining too. I needed to ensure i got it's return working. Whilst waiting for this i decided to do a spot of bashing up and down the hill. My initial plan was to just wait until i saw something i needed hop on and then pop back down using the same method at Queen Street. I was waiting a while and got nowhere. So i went up anyway to see what was on the bay branch. It was a winning 153 unit but i didn't nab it yet. I headed back to Central for 43140!

All of a sudden required 66s for sight started appearing! In the space of an hour i saw 3 new ones. My return to Cardiff gained a winning 170 unit for sight and haulage.

It was time for the hill again and get the bay branch unit. I headed up the hill and spotted a winner heading back down so jumped on. Then back up for the 153. That completed and my descent grabbed another 142. The last for ATW.

I had grabbed two winners off the hill and didn't want to push my luck! So i went back for the CDF - NWP move! I did this several times to get in place for the WAG Express which was to be my final ATW 57! Unlike last time when 57315 was supposed to be on, this time it was! During all of this i spotted 43002 on the rear of a service heading to Swansea. I needed this so another couple of NWP to CDF moves were completed until its return back and then off to Swindon. A quick (30 mins from off the train and back onto another!) Chilli in a required Wetherspoons and a   time for home! Got to Temple Meads a couple of minutes early enabling me to run and grab the dud voyager back to Plymouth.

A very good day with 13 winners and 526 miles completed. Also spotted GBRail Frieght 66 at Newport as i was leaving which was required for sight!
